Enjoy the most varied and romantic cycling paradises along the German Wine Route and one of the most impressive rivers in Europe, the Rhine. Our round trip leads from the heart of the German Wine Rout to its southern border, near the French border with Alsace. In the Rhine plain it is varied through beautiful forests and huge tobacco growing areas, along the romantic old Rhine arms. You cycle through wine-growing areas of Rhine-Hesse and the Palatinate, where a good wine directly at the vintner in one of the numerous ostrich farms waiting for you.
On the way you will meet in the more than 2000 years old cultural landscape on magnificent monuments of German history such as the impressive cathedral churches in Speyer and Worms, or the castle Schwetzingen with its beautiful park. From a very long and impressive Jewish tradition are a lot of places along the route before you picturesque journey in the secret wine capital, at the coronation of the German Wine Queen ends.
TOUR PROFILE: Flat route in Rhine Valley. In the vineyards around Neustadt slightly hilly terrain, which is also good for nnon-experienced cyclists. On particularly hilly sections there are easy alternative routes for pleasure cyclists.
Individual Arrival to Neustadt.
Neustadt is the secret German wine capital. In the medieval ambience of the city at the foot of Palatinate Forest you can experience the coronation of the German Wine Queen and enjoy the special culture in the second largest German wine-growing region.
The Route leads through romantic winegrowing villages with a unique atmosphere. In the former fortress town of Landau you can visit the medieval town shopping center at the Rathausplatz and enjoy from Fortress Landeck the view over of the Rhine valley. For sightseeing in Bad Bergzabern we can recommend you to visit the baroque castle, the historic in “Gasthof Engel” and the Westwallmuseum.
In direction of south you can
do a detour to the Weintof in Schweigen as monumental end of the wine route.
Wine grower route leads along forest areas to the Rhine. In Jockgrim you will
meet original Alsatian streets, a ball house and the Zigeleimuseum. At the end
of the day you will arrive to Germersheim.
Along the romantic old Rhine arms the stage leads you to the beautiful cathedral city of Speyer. The UNESCO-listed cathedral dominates the lovingly maintained city center. Between Bischofssitz and Altpörtel unfolds the medieval city ambience with its Jewish Bath and the Old Mint. You can end your day in one of the beer gardens on the Rhine terraces.
From Rhine it goes into the former summer residence Schwetzingen with one of the most beautiful parks of the 17th / 18th century and further into the old roman city of Ladenburg with a beautiful medieval city center. Through the Rhine valley you cycle into the imperial city of Worms with the cathedral of St. Peter from the 12th century, the Martin Luther Monument and the oldest preserved Jewish cemetery in Europe.
Today, the Northern Wine Route shows ist best side. In the well-kept medieval towns of Neuleiningen and Freinsheim, you can discover many wine celler. The tranquil spa town of Bad Dürkheim awaits its guests with its giant wine barrel, the Gradierbau and the casino in the former city palace.
The final round of the cycle tour is the tradition-steeped wine villages Wachenheim and Deidesheim. Huge and well-kept wineries characterize the townscape here. The medieval town hall in Deidesheim houses a nice little wine-growing museum. Over the balcony of Palatinate the route leads back to Neustadt.
