Along the lakes of Munich by bike

This bike tour leads you past numerous lakes in Upper Bavaria. Start by enjoying the city Munich with its charm and hospitality. All stress is forgotten while travelling in Bavarian country and you can allow yourself to be enchanted during your cycling holiday by the untouched nature, clear lakes and the splendid view of the surrounding mountains. Taste german beer and foods like "Obazda", "Münchner Weißwurst", "Leberkäse" and so on! 

TOURENPROFIL: You cycle on well signposted and paved long-distance cycle paths as well as on quiet side roads. Few sections are to cycle on main roads. A few short climbs can you also push the bike.


Tour description:

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO MUNICH

Your cycling holiday begins with your individual arrival in the Bavarian capital, which entices visitors from all over the world with its many attractions. Sights worth seeing are the English garden with its Chinese tower, the Church of our Lady, the Nymphenburg castle and the Marienplatz. Visit one of the many beer gardens and enjoy hospitality and Bavarian flair over a glass of beer.

DAY 2: MUNICH - STARNBERGER LAKE (APPROX. 35 - 58 KM)

Your first cycling tour brings you from Munich via the Weßlinger and Pilsensee lakes to the Ammersee Lake, the third largest lake in Bavaria. Have a short rest in Herrsching, in order to enjoy the fantastic view of the lake. After passing by the Andech monastery you will reach the Starnberger Lake. Those who would like to make today’s journey a little more comfortable, can cycle directly to the Starnberger Lake.

DAY 3: STARNBERGER SEE - STAFFELSEE / KOCHELSEE (APPROX. 45 - 65 KM)

You cycle along the eastern side of the Starnberger Lake until you reach Seeshaupt. There is a lovely bathing place just before this where you can cool yourself down. An insider’s tip on this cycling trip is the splendid view over the romantic Riegsee Lake, before you arrive at the Staffelsee Lake. 

DAY 4: STAFFELSEE / KOCHELSEE - BAD TÖLZ (APPROX. 45 - 65 KM)

Today’s cycling tour first leads along the Lake Constance-Königssee Lake-cycle path to the Kochelsee Lake. From there you cycle via Benediktbeuern and Bad Heilbrunn to Bad Tölz. The health resort, known through the TV series “Der Bulle von Tölz”, has a lot to offer. The love for tradition and one’s home is still a part of everyday life here.

DAY 5: BAD TÖLZ - TEGERNSEE (APPROX. 20 - 60 KM)

Today it is possible for you to choose between different cycling tours to the Tegernsee Lake. Those wanting a comfortable bike ride can ride along the cycle path on the Tegernsee Lake (approx. 20 km) and can also then go around the Tegernsee lake (+ approx. 20 km). Very athletic cyclists or mountain bikers can choose the version along the Isar to the fjord-like Sylvenstein reservoir and via the Achenpass to the Tegernsee Lake (approx. 60 km).Overnight stay in Bad Wiessee.

DAY 6: TEGERNSEE - MUNICH (APPROX. 25 - 65 KM)

Today the long distance cycle path Via Bavarica Tyrolensis leads you from the Tegernsee Lake directly back to the Bavarian capital. One can shorten today’s cycling tour by approx. 25 km if one wishes by taking a train ride on one’s own on the Oberlandbahn.
