SunBike bike tour: Salzkammergut - bike rally Wolfgangsee

Experience the Salzkammergut in its original form - away from alpine kitsch and enjoy an authentic vacation an a healthy way. Starting point of this bike tour is Abersee am Wolfgangsee. The location trip is ideal for all those who don't want to pack their luggage during the bike tour, but still want to experience a lot. Around the Wolfgangsee there is much to explore and discover. The town of St. Wolfgang, which was location for the operetta""Das weiße Rössl" and offers another attraction with the steppest cog railroad up to the Schafberg. The bike tour passes through the imperial town of Bad Ischl, where Emperor Franz-Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth "Sisi" of Austria-Hungary once spent their summers. Some buldings still remind us of the imperial era, such as the Trinkhalle, the Kaiservilla and Kaiserpark. An equally famous village is the picturesque HHallstatt, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The world's oldest salt mine is located here. TOUR PROFILE: Mostly of the tour runs on bike paths and side roads. The landscape is slightly hilly.

Individual Arrival to Abersee am  Wolfgangsee, a small  village in the area of Salzkammergut, few kilometers away from the famous town St. Wolfgang (scenery of operetta „Das Weiße Rössl“; cog railroad  to the Schafberg). In  the  evening  the  Info-Meeting  takes  place.

The bike tour starts with the ride in the direction of Strobl, along the Ischler Ache to the imperial city of Bad Ischl with its sights such as the Trinkhalle, the  Kaiservilla  and  Kaiserpark  and  much  more! Continue along the Traun river to Ebensee. Here you take the boat to Hoisn. From Hoisn by bike along the Ostuferradweg (bike path) to Gmunden with the castle Orth and the town hall with ceramic carillon. By train from Altmünster to Bad Ischl and by bike back to the starting point Abersee. 

Today you will cycle to Bad Ischl and along the river Traun to Hallstatt (UNESCO World Heritage Site). In the small picturesque town of Hallstatt you can discover the marketplaye with cozy ca-fés and restaurants, the Catholic and Protestant churches, as well as the ossuary. But also the „Skywalk“ - 350 Meter above the roofs of Hall-statt is a spectacular viewing platform on the salt mountain, which you must have seen! The wor-ld‘s oldest salt mine is also a highlight of Hallstatt. Continue  by  ferry  from  Hallstatt  Markt to  Hallstatt  trainstation  (approx.  15  min) and  then  by  train      to  Bad  Ischl.  The  last kilimeters  cycle back to Abersee

The  last  stage  of  this  short  tour  leads  from Abersee  via  St.  Gilgen  to  Fürberg.  Park  the bike at the boat landing stage and continue the hike  to  the  wedding  cross  „Hochzeitskreuz“. Duration in total 1 hour there and back. Then take the boat in Fürberg to Ried-Falkenstein (incl. bike) and follow bike route to St. Wolfgang, known for the operetta „Das weiße Rössl“ and   the Schaf-bergbahn rack  railroad. The last kilometers you cycle back to Abersee or you can shorten the tour and take the ferry from St. Wolfgang to Abersee on your own and cycle the last part to the hotel, where you can end your cycling trip in comfort.
